| Dave grew up on the docks of Hull, and of his first bands was The Velvetones with fellow future South man Dave Rotheray, but his big break came when he was asked to replace Hugh Whitaker as the Housemartin's drummer in the mid 80s. On the formation of the Beautiful South, he became lead singer, but his self admitted lack of stage presence (he is after all primarily a drummer) has led to him falling back behind Paul. Still his voice is powerful and unique and certainly merits the solo album he has recorded and is pending release. |
