Paul and Dave Rotheray had begun writing songs for the second album late in 1989. This time Briana was to play a bigger part in the songs, and was duly given one half of the duet 'A Little Time', the leading single from the album. It was very well received and by October 27th 1990, it climbed to No. 1. This put Paul in a select group of artists who have had No. 1s with two different groups, others include Paul McCartney (The Beatles and Wings.) The album, 'Choke', was released later in October reached No. 2. The next single, 'My Book' was released in November. Unfortunately it didn't do as well, and the band were sued for the use of the lyrics 'Back to bed, Back to reality', apparently stolen from a Soul II Soul song. That Christmas, Dave Stead broke his leg in Brussels and a few dates had to be cancelled. In early 1991, another single, 'Let Love Speak Up Itself', also failed to perform well in the charts. However, the success of 'A Little Time' continued when it won a Brit for best video in February. Following this Paul and Dave began writing the next album, and recording began in the Summer of 1991 with a new producer, Jon Kelly.
