Old Red Eyes Is Back:
A really strong opening song. Despite the fact that most of the band were heavily drinking at the time, the lyrics are mainly against alcohol. Released as a single.
We Are Each Other:
Also released as a single, this duet is apparently based on one of Paul's past relationships.
Rocking Chair:
The first slower song on the album, Briana takes lead vocals for most of it. This is also based on a past relationship.
We'll Deal With You Later:
A very dark song, harking back to the Housemartin's 'People Who Grinned Themselves To Death' with the anti-monarchy messages it contains.
Domino Man:
Dave takes lead on this upbeat song. Good for a filler.
| 36D:
|
Another single, the content you can probably guess from the title. The chorus (which incidentally tends to be what most people remember!) is misleading; it's actually mostly against the porn industry.
Here It Is Again:
Another dark song, similar to 'We'll Deal With You Later'. I like it, but it's not to everyone's taste.
Something That You Said:
Very macabre, but not depressing. It tries to make sense of violent relationships: 'I'd like to hit you like I love you'. What's interesting is that the violence comes from both the woman and man.
I'm Your Number One Fan:
Another relationship song, verging on filler status though.
Bell Bottomed Tear:
This is a good song, but I think the decision to release it as a single was unwise. However good performances from Briana and Paul. Last time Briana is featured on a TBS studio album.
You Play Glockenspiel, I'll Play Drums: |
A B-Side written during recording, this manages to hold its own against the more thoughtful songs. I like this a lot.
When I'm 84:
A parody of the Beatles' song 'When I'm 64'. A good fun ending to an excellent album.
